  好的海报与美观的视觉效果没什么关系,一副好的海报更像是一个披着美丽外衣的好点子。以铅笔开始你的创作草稿,避免用电脑或社交网站作为起点。尝试画好些张不同点子下的视觉呈现效果。当你敲定你的点子后,开始构思画面或字体的视觉展现。用点子推进视觉元素的拓展,而不是反过来。
  Good posters have nothing to do with beautiful visual effects. A good poster is more like a good idea in a beautiful coat. Start with a pencil and avoid using computers or social networking sites as a starting point. Try to draw some visual effects under different ideas. When you finalize your ideas, begin to conceive visual presentation of pictures or fonts. Use ideas to expand visual elements, not vice versa.
  上面展现的案例,是我为创意论坛设计的一款名为 Inside Job(内在工作)的海报。我首先决定自己要设计一款铅笔/手枪的海报,之后我选择用单一的黑线与纯色背景让视觉元素(铅笔与手枪)结合。
  The case shown above is a poster I designed for the Creative Forum called Inside Job. First I decided to design a pencil/pistol poster. Then I chose to combine visual elements (pencil and pistol) with a single black line and a solid background.

  一开始可以在一长串词物名单里挑选适用海报的词汇。当你选定了词语后,让它们在草稿本里发酵。我为上面这张海报选择的两个关键词是“铅笔”与“心”。需要传递的消息是“Target爱心教育”。一张只有心或铅笔的海报太有些司空见惯了,集合两类不同元素的海报让成品显得独一无二。
  You can start with a long list of words and phrases that apply to posters. When you have chosen the words, let them ferment in the draft. The two keywords I chose for the poster above are "pencil" and "heart". The message to be delivered is "Target Love Education". A poster with a heart or pencil is too common. A poster with two different elements makes the finished product unique.

  2009年,我的夫人怀孕了,我们有了个孩子。那段时间我被要求设计一张单车品牌Artcrank海报展的海报,的限制是,海报的重点需要是单车。于是我有了“将单车与婴儿的元素相叠继而诞生一款别致的概念单车”这种想法,并用视觉元素呈现在海报上。
  In 2009, my wife became pregnant and we had our first child. At that time, I was asked to design a poster for the bicycle brand Artcrank poster exhibition. The only restriction was that the focus of the poster was bicycle. So I came up with the idea of "overlapping the elements of bicycle and baby and then giving birth to a unique concept bicycle" and presented it in posters with visual elements.

  如果你习惯了丝网印刷,不妨尝试下能够体现多层次丰富色彩的套印。而如果你习惯了数码印刷技法,那可能性就更多了。许多用惯了丝网印刷的人瞧不上数码印刷制品,事实上,数码印刷能更很好地让成品融入摄影技巧与细微的阴影变化效果。如果你正热衷于凸版印刷,可以在不同种类与材质的纸张上进行尝试,让你的作品令人印象深刻。
  If you are accustomed to screen printing, you might as well try to embody multi-level and rich color overprinting. And if you're used to digital printing, that's more likely. Many people who are used to screen printing look down on digital printing products. In fact, digital printing can better integrate the finished products into photographic techniques and subtle shadows. If you are keen on letterpress printing, you can try different kinds of paper with different materials to make your work impressive.

  尝试远离电脑工作与思考。选出表达你观念的好方式,无论是三维雕塑还是波洛克式倾洒颜料,只要能更好地表达自己,去做就是了。而非电脑制作的手工不完美效果,用来强化和人性相关的点子的视觉印象更贴切。
  Try to stay away from computer work and thinking. Choose the best way to express your ideas, whether it's three-dimensional sculpture or Pollock-style painting, as long as you can express yourself better, do it. Instead of the hand-made imperfect effect of computer, it is more appropriate to enhance the visual impression of ideas related to human nature.

  某个聪明的人曾告诉我,好的海报需遵循所谓的“5守则”:50英尺,5英尺和5英寸等等,每一段距离需要由不同内容来交代。上面的例子可以较好地说明“5守则”。观众首先在50英尺开外看到了箭靶,5英尺时注意到了正在玩logo的小人。距离5英寸时,你能仔细端详人物的表情、动作与衣服细节。
  A smart person once told me that good posters need to follow the so-called "five rules": 50 feet, 5 feet, 5 inches and so on. Each distance needs to be explained by different content. The above example can better illustrate the "5 Rules". The audience first saw the target from 50 feet away, and at 5 feet they noticed the man playing the logo. Five inches away, you can scrutinize the characters'expressions, movements and clothing details.

  When you make posters for a brand, try to analyze the logo of the brand and explore the elements that can be used in the layout of the poster. Integrating the brand logo into the poster can make your poster look unique, and customers won't yell at you to enlarge the logo.

  有些时候,在尺寸与比例上做调整,尝试对比极端的尺寸与比例,可以让一张暗淡的画面出彩。在这个给夏日活动做的系列海报中,我仅仅展示了一辆超市手推车与一件产品。但是,夸张的产品比例,呼应了醒目的标题,让视觉印象变得有趣。
  Sometimes, adjusting the size and proportion and trying to compare the extreme size and proportion can make a dull picture shine. In this series of posters for summer events, I only show a supermarket trolley and a product. However, the exaggerated proportion of products echoes the eye-catching headlines and makes visual impressions interesting.
  9. 与众不同

  要在堆积如山的海报中一眼注意到你的海报,你得习惯让它与众不同。比如鲜艳的配色,图案或高强对比度都能让作品突出。
  To notice your poster in a mountain of posters, you have to get used to making it different. For example, bright colors, patterns or high contrast can make the work stand out.
  在上面这张Artcrank海报, 我将让人眼花的黑白条纹与单车相融,试图在勾勒单车外轮廓时,描绘出速度感。
  In this Artcrank poster above, I will blend the eye-catching black and white stripes with the bicycle, trying to sketch the outline of the bicycle, and depict the sense of speed.

  后,关键的贴士是,必须让你的海报设计简洁!从点子堆里选择一个,以少的视觉元素,完整地将你的点子呈现出来。人们天天对拼命吸睛的视觉图像应接不暇,所以你得保证你的海报能是眼情人,没人让你必须和每个人解释你的观念。
  Finally, the most critical tip is to make your poster design concise! Choose one from the pile of ideas and present your ideas completely with the least visual elements. People are constantly overwhelmed with eye-catching visual images, so you have to make sure that your poster is the first-eye lover, and no one has to explain your ideas to everyone.
  这里展示的是target春季活动的系列海报。我选择了一系列眼就能看出来表示春天的图标,只用了一把小美工刀,一张花纸就完成了海报设计。简单的插画风格让这组海报新奇有趣。
  Here is a series of posters showing the spring activities of target. I chose a series of icons that I could see at first glance to represent spring. With a small artist's knife, I finished the poster design with a piece of flower paper. Simple illustration style makes this group of posters novel and interesting.
